Amin Received his Ph.D. from University of Alberta under the supervision of Prof. Richard L. McCreery in 2018. His research focus has been on the Molecular Electronics: from flexible fabrication, transport and optoelectronics to electrostatic doping of molecular layer <20 nm. He wants to use our current understanding of interface characteristics covalently grown molecular layer in order increase or modulate the performance quantum dots and perovskite-based devices.


Dr. Bin Chen

Bin received his Ph.D. degree in materials science and engineering from Arizona State University in 2018, under the supervision of Prof. Sefaattin Tongay. His previous research was on anisotropy control of layered pseudo-1D materials by vapor phase deposition. He joined Sargent group as a postdoctoral fellow after Ph.D. and his current focus is on developing high-performance perovskite/transport layers for photovoltaic applications.


Dr. Bin Sun

Bin received his PhD in Chemical Engineering at University of Waterloo, Ontario. His PhD research was focused on polymer semiconductor development and field effect transistor engineering in Prof. Yuning Li’s group. He is currently working on solution processed colloid quantum dots solar cell devices.


Dr. Dae-Hyun Nam

Dae-Hyun received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Seoul National University, South Korea, under the supervision of Prof. Young-Chang Joo in Feb. 2017. He worked in the Research Institute of Advanced Materials (RIAM), Seoul National University as a postdoctoral researcher from Mar. 2017 to Aug. 2017. He joined the Sargent group in Sep. 2017 and his research focuses on the development of transition metal-based catalysts for CO2 reduction.


Dr. Dahye Won

Dahye Won received her Ph.D degree from the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), South Korea in Aug. 2016. She worked at Clean Energy Research Center of Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) as a postdoctoral researcher from 2016 to 2018. Then, she has been working at KIST as a senior scientist since Sep. 2018. She joined the Sargent group in Sep. 2019 with a research interest in CO2 reduction.


Dr. Dongxin Ma

Dongxin Ma received her Ph. D. and B.Sc. from the Department of Chemistry, Tsinghua University, P. R. China in 2017 and 2012, respectively. She is currently a postdoc in Sargent Group. Her Ph. D. research interests mainly focus on ionic transition-metal complexes and their applications in light-emitting devices, and she has demonstrated a feasible and versatile material design strategy of sublimable cationic iridium(III) complexes for vacuum-evaporated-deposited phosphorescent optoelectric devices.


Dr. Eui Hyuk Jung

Dr. Jung received his B.S. & Ph.D (integrated course) degrees in the department of Materials Science and Engineering from Seoul National University, South Korea. His research during doctoral course focused on design and synthesis of the novel organic semiconductors, and realization of high-performance organic solar cells / field-effect transistors. He had worked to investigate high-performance and stable perovskite solar cells at Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT) from 2016 to 2019. He joined the Ted Sargent group at University of Toronto as postdoctoral fellow. He is interested in research on various optoelectronic devices using organic semiconductors and organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite materials.


Dr. Fanglong Yuan

Fanglong received his Ph.D. degree from the College of Chemistry, Beijing Normal University, Beijing, China, in July 2018. His Ph.D. research interest mainly focused on the synthesis of carbon nanomaterials and their various applications for LEDs, lasers, and bioimaging. He joined Sargent group since September 2018 and he is currently working on the LED and photovoltaic devices.


Dr. Fengwang Li

Fengwang received his Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from Monash University, Australia in 2017. His research was focused on two-dimensional materials for electrocatalytic CO2 reduction. He is now working as a postdoctoral fellow in the Sargent group with a research interest in CO2 reduction.


Dr. Haijie Chen

Haijie Chen received his Ph.D. degree from the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2014. He was a postdoctor at Northwestern University from 2015 to 2019 in USA, investigating exploration of new quantum materials. He joined the Sargent group in Apr. 2019 and has a research interest in perovskites.


Dr. Hucheng Song

Hucheng received his Ph.D. degree from the School of Electronic Engineering, Nanjing University, China. in 2016. After graduation, he got the National Postdoctoral Program for Innovative Talents and started his postdoctoral research in Nanjing University. Then, he worked at Nanjing University as an associate researcher. His research interests focused on Li-ion batteries, such as Li-Air battery, Li-CO2 battery and all-solid-state battery. He joined the Sargent group in May. 2019 with a research interest focusing on CO2 electroreduction.


Dr. Laxmi (Kishore) Chiluka

Kishore received his Bachelor of Science (2008) and Master of Science (2010) in Chemistry from Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, Puttaparthi, India. He was a Research Fellow at Raman Research Institute, Bangalore, India and a Visiting Researcher at Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland from 2010 to 2013. Subsequently, he received his PhD degree (2013-2017) in Chemistry from Ghent University, Ghent, Belgium for the doctoral thesis “Colloidal Quantum Dots for Opto-electronic Applications in the Infrared: Synthesis and Surface Chemistry” under the supervision of Prof. Zeger Hens. He is currently part of Sargent’s group (since October 2017), where he will develop novel IR active Colloidal Quantum Dots.


Dr. Mengfei Wu

Mengfei received her B.A. in Engineering and M.Eng. from University of Cambridge in June 2012. She received her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from MIT in September 2018. Her research at MIT focused on solid-state infrared-to-visible upconversion in organic molecules sensitized by colloidal quantum dots, under the co-supervision of Prof. Marc Baldo and Prof. Vladimir Bulović. Mengfei worked in the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering, A*STAR, Singapore in 2012-2013 and 2018-2019. She joined the Sargent Group in October 2019 as a recipient of the prestigious Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship, awarded by the Government of Canada. Her current research interests include materials engineering and photonic designs for efficient light emission.


Dr. Min-Jae Choi

Min-Jae received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, South Korea, in Feb. 2017 under the co-supervision of Prof. Yeon Sik Jung and Dr. Jin Young Kim. He worked in the Applied Science Research Institute, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology as a postdoctoral researcher from Mar. 2017 to Sep. 2017. He studied the device structure engineering for colloidal quantum dot solar cells, and his current research focuses on the synthesis of colloidal quantum dots and their application to optoelectronic devices.


Dr. Mingchuan Luo

Mingchuan Luo received his Ph.D. degree from Beijing University of Chemical Technology in 2016 under the supervision of Prof. Hong Zhu. From Sep. 2014 to Sep. 2015, He studied as a visiting PhD student at University of Delaware, advised by Prof. Yushan Yan. After graduation, he worked as a post-doctoral fellow at Peking University in Prof. Shaojun Guo’s group. His previous research focused on fundamental electrochemistry and materials design associated with the electrocatalysis in fuel cell and water electrolyser. Mingchuan joined the Sargent group in Jul. 2018, with research focusing on the development of promising electrocatalysts for renewable energy and environmental innovations.


Dr. Ning Wang

Ning Wang obtained the PhD degree from Nankai University in 2018, under the supervision of Prof. Xiaodan Zhang. His previous research mainly focuses on synthesizing oxygen evolution reaction catalysts, hydrogen evolution reaction catalysts, photoelectrodes based on semiconductors. He joined Sargent group as a postdoctoral fellow after Ph.D. and his current focus is on CO2 reduction catalysts and acid oxygen evolution reaction catalysts.


Dr. Pelayo Garcia de Arquer

Pelayo received his Master of Science in Photonics at the Barcelona Tech University, after his MSc and BSc studies in Electrical Engineering and Mathematical Sciences. He completed his Ph.D. at the Institute of Photonic Sciences in Barcelona under the supervision of Prof. Gerasimos Konstantatos, where he explored the use of novel routes for optoelectronic devices with improved functionalities based on metallic nanostructures. As a Connaught fellow, his current research focuses on the use of bio-inspired ideas for renewable energy applications.


Dr. Se-Woong Baek

Se-Woong received his Ph.D. degree in EEWS (Energy, Environment, Water and Sustainability) graduate school of Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in 2017. He studied organic- and colloidal quantum dots-based optoelectronics devices, especially in the photovoltaics and various photovoltaics applications. His current research is focusing on the developing a new class of novel photovoltaics structure, comprising both organic and colloidal quantum dots solids as an NRF project.


Dr. Seungjin Lee

Seungjin Lee received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), Republic of Korea, under supervision of Prof. Myoung Hoon Song in August, 2018. His research focuses on optoelectronic devices based on organic and metal halide perovskites. He joined the Sargent group in March, 2019.


Dr. Sung-Fu Hung

Sung-Fu received his Ph.D. degree in chemistry at National Taiwan University in 2018 under the supervision of Prof. Hao Ming Chen. His dissertation focused on the synthesis of electrocatalysts and photoelectrocatalysts and the in-/ex-situ analysis. His Ph.D. work has won the 2019 IUPAC-Solvay International Award for Young Chemists. Sung-Fu joined Sargent group in 2019, and he is currently working on CO2 electroreduction to produce hydrocarbon fuels.


Dr. Tao Peng

Tao is currently a postdoc in the Sargent group at the University of Toronto. Holding Ontario Trillium Scholarship, Tao obtained his double PhD degree at the Sorbonne University (-Pierre and Marie Curie University, France) and University of Windsor in 2018. He worked in University of Windsor as a research associate from 2018 to 2019 early. His research focused on design and synthesis of electrocatalysts and photocatalysts for energy conversion applications.


Dr. Taotao Zhuang

Taotao received his PhD degree in University of Science and Technology of China in 2015. He worked in University of Science and Technology of China as a research assistant from 2014 to 2015 and then as a Postdoctoral researcher from 2015. His research focused on design and synthesis of one-dimensional sulfide hetero-nanorods for solar energy conversion applications.


Dr. Wan Ru Leow

Currently, she is interested in electrocatalytic carbon upgrading towards high-value commodity chemicals.


Dr. Xue Wang

Xue Wang received her Ph.D. degree from Xiamen University in Dec. 2015 under the supervision of Prof. Zhaoxiong Xie at Xiamen University and Prof. Younan Xia at Georgia Tech (as a visiting graduate student, Sep. 2013-Sep. 2015). Then she worked in Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (Feb. 2016-Oct. 2017). Her previous research focused on design and synthesis of nanocrystals for their applications in ORR, heterogeneous catalysis, gas sensing, and photocatalysis. Xue joined Sargent group in Nov. 2017 and she is currently working on the design of catalysts for electrochemistry application.


Dr. Yi Hou

Dr. Yi Hou is a postdoctoral fellow in the Sargent group at University of Toronto. He earned his Ph.D. in 2017 from Prof. Christoph Brabec’s group in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany. His doctoral research focused on the understanding and design of interfaces in perovskite-based photovoltaics. He was awarded SAOT fellowship from 2013 to 2017, and the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Students Abroad in 2016. Afterwards, he joined Clarendon Laboratory Department of Physics at University of Oxford as visiting scholar working with Prof. Henry Snaith in 2017. His research interest includes the optical and electronic properties of perovskite-based semiconductors, organic/inorganic-based emerging nano-structured interfaces, and understanding operating mechanisms in high-performance optoelectronic devices.


Dr. Yitong Dong

Yitong received his Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from Texas A&M University in 2018 under the supervision of Prof. Dong Hee Son. His previous research was focused on hot electron generation from Mn-doped quantum dots. He joined Sargent group as a postdoctoral fellow in 2018. He is currently working on developing photovoltaics from strongly quantum confined perovskite quantum dots.


Dr. Yuan Gao

Gao Yuan completed his undergraduate study in Physics at Shandong University, China.  He did his Ph.D. between Aug. 2011 to Apr. 2016 at School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore under the supervision of Prof. Hilmi Volkan Demir. From May 2016 to Sept. 2017, he worked at School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering as a research fellow. His main research interests are colloidal quantum dot synthesis, lasing and the laser spectroscopic study.


Dr. Yuguang (Chris) Li

Chris completed his B.S. degree at the University of California, Davis in 2010. He subsequently worked in industries for three years before joining Penn State for graduate school. He received his Ph.D. degree (2018) with Dr. Tom Mallouk and his dissertation focuses on the design of efficient CO2 electrocatalysts and electrolyzer. Chris joined the Sargent group in July 2018 and is currently working on electrochemical reduction to generate renewable energy fuels.


Dr. Yuhang Li

Yuhang Li received his Ph.D. degree from East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) in 2016 under the supervision of Prof. Huagui Yang. After graduation, he got the National Postdoctoral Program for Innovative Talents and started his postdoctoral research in ECUST with Prof. Chunzhong Li. Then he worked at ECUST as an associate professor. His research focused on electrocatalysts for CO2 reduction and water splitting. He joined the Sargent group in Aug. 2019 with a research interest in CO2 reduction.


Dr. Yuhang Wang

Yuhang received his PhD degree in Chemistry from Fudan University (China) in 2017. His PhD research was focused on nanomaterials for energy storage and conversion, especially for Lithium ion batteries, electrochemical water splitting and CO2 reduction. Currently, He is a postdoctoral fellow in Sargent group and working on CO2 electroreduction.


Dr. Ziyun Wang

Ziyun Wang did the doctoral research at the Queen’s University of Belfast under the supervision of Prof. Peijun Hu and Prof. Chris Hardacre from 2012-2017. His dissertation work focused on the rational design of catalysts using first-principles calculation and micro-kinetic modeling. From 2017-2018, he was a postdoc researcher at Stanford University with Prof. Jens Nørskov and Dr. Thomas Bligaard on machine learning surrogate model for accelerating material design. He joined Sargent group in May 2018, and he is currently working on the design of catalysts for electrochemistry application with machine learning and first-principles calculations.
